Abandonment

Abandonment

The creature sits and waits,
Though his master will never come
He stares into the open and just waits
He still hopes for his master’s return

As darkness falls like a blanket
Covering the land in shroud
Still the creature waits on
Though his master will never come

The creature sits through the cold and wet
Just waiting, waiting as there’s nothing more to do
He grovels and whimpers when rains and sleet fall upon him
Yearning for the pain to stop and his master to return

Though many days had passed and the creature was fading
Still he was sure of his master’s return
Yet it was impossible to believe that he had been left by one he loved so much
His fur was sodden and the ice grew thick upon him

As the creature spent his final day his master lived on
The master never gave second thought to what he had left behind
The creature was left abandoned in dark forest way
Only a few mere months since his arrival on Christmas Day

Yet still in that walkway, on the cold winter nights
The creature sits and waits
Though his master will never come
Though his master will never come.
